A catalytic converter is a vehicle emissions control device that converts toxic pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction (oxidation or reduction). Catalytic converters are used with internal combustion engines fueled by either petrol (gasoline) or diesel—including lean-burn engines.
A two-way (or "oxidation") catalytic converter has two simultaneous tasks:
This type of catalytic converter is widely used on diesel engines to reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. They were also used on gasoline engines in American- and Canadian-market automobiles until 1981. Because of their inability to control oxides of nitrogen, they were superseded by three-way converters.
Three-way catalytic converters (TWC) have the additional advantage of controlling the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx), in particular nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas over three hundred times more potent than carbon dioxide,[17] a precursor to acid rain and currently the most ozone-depleting substance.[18] Technological improvements including three-way catalytic converters have led to motor vehicle nitrous oxide emissions in the US falling to 8.2% of anthropogenic nitrous oxide emissions in 2008, from a high of 17.77% in 1998.
Since 1981, "three-way" (oxidation-reduction) catalytic converters have been used in vehicle emission control systems in the United States and Canada; many other countries have also adopted stringent vehicle emission regulations that in effect require three-way converters on gasoline-powered vehicles. The reduction and oxidation catalysts are typically contained in a common housing, however in some instances they may be housed separately.
A three-way catalytic converter has three simultaneous tasks:
We create a market for the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) that exist in catalytic converters. Foreign and domestic refiners, exporters, brokers and automotive manufacturers bid on our materials on a daily basis. Unlike other catalytic converter buyers who sell their converters to a limited number of middle men, we are a high volume buyer who sells directly and has buyers compete for our materials. This allows us to pass the best possible prices on to our customers.
We buy scrap Catalytic Converters from all over the Ireland, from the public, car breakers, independent traders, main dealers, garages, bulk sellers & end of life vehicle facilities. Catalytic Converters contain precious metals such as Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium. These metals can be used in a wide range of everyday products from mobile phones to televisions. Recycling the metals within the scrap catalytic converters helps to meet demand from the electronics manufacturers and relieves the strain on our planets natural resources.
We buy all used catalytic converters: ceramic, metallic and even damaged or inoperative. Prices from 2€-450€. The price of catalytic converter depends on its size, type, contents of precious metals as well as worldwide stock exchange quotation and currencies exchange rates. For a free valuation of your catalytic converter(s), please sent us email with a pictures of the catalytic converter and details of vehicle(make, model, engine size ,year, diesel or petrol?). More info you can provide more accurate price we can tell you by phone.
